Step Out of Your Style Comfort Zone in 2018

Happy Thursday ladies! I hope you’re all staying warm (or cool, if you enjoy being outside in this weather).  I hope you’re doing something fun because I am currently staring at my closet, if we are being honest.

This morning, as I was getting ready for work, I noticed I wear a lot of the same things over and over.  Not so much the same sweater and skirt every day, but rather the same style of clothing.

I can’t tell you how many crewneck sweatshirts I have purchased this fall.  If you ask my fiancé, he would tell you too many.  I also feel like I have far too many pencil skirts hanging in my closet. People say they’re a staple, but have you ever had too many of one thing?

Five creme knit sweaters say that something needs to change. So, currently, I am looking at how I can mix up my wardrobe so it doesn’t look like I’m constantly rotating the same few pieces.

I feel like I write about how great it is to own said staple pieces; but sometimes you need a statement piece or some fun piece to spice your wardrobe up.  Stepping out of your comfort zone occasionally will help you look on trend and in style.

Of course, if you are looking to step out of your style comfort zone, make sure to do some research first.  Seeing what looks good together and what compliments each other takes some work, especially when it comes to mixing patterns. And you don’t have to jump in all at once, take things slow.  Make sure you are comfortable with little changes.  Learn what you like without investing a lot at first.

One of my favorite stores for doing this is Zara.  I found these fringe trouser pants last week and fell in love with them.  They aren’t like anything else I own.  Part of what drew me to them is the fact that although they’re fun, the pants still go with lots of tops and they are work appropriate.

I also have picked up a pair of high waisted jeans.  I love being able to wear these with cropped sweaters in the winter.  One of my favorite things to do is pair a leather jacket with high waisted jeans and heels for a night out.  You look on trend and can even add a pop of color to your shirt underneath if you’d like.

In the spring, I always pick bright fun heels to dress up my otherwise muted outfits.  Heels are an easy way to step out of your style comfort zone, especially if you wear a lot of black or grey like I do. Since the basics go with everything, the heels make the look pop.

Take a step outside of your comfort zone every once in a while.  It helps you look current and on trend in any season.  Here are a few stores I love to shop at to help me step out of my style comfort zone:

  • Zara (Currently having a huge sale!)
  • Lou&Grey (Loving their sweaters!)
  • Topshop

Finding embellished tops and sweaters are a great way to start, especially if you always wear knits. This will dress up your look just enough; plus embellished sweaters are on trend right now.  Another good way is to layer.  Maybe throw on a blazer to complete your look, or you can add one or two long necklaces. There are so many ways to step up your style!
