Alright lets get real here ladies: acne sucks. Like really sucks. I mean who loves breakouts?! Not me. Its painful and doesn’t look awesome. Lately with this change of seasons, my skin is all sorts of confused, meaning keeping the breakouts away is hard. Some days its cool and dry and other days its hot and humid. My combination skin is not loving it.
Since this Texas weather isnt looking like its going to stop changing up on me, I thought I would tell y’all about some of my favorite acne products for treating my skin. I have found a few tips to keeping acne away during this time of the year:
- Consistency: Always washing your face in the morning and evening will help keep things clear. Have a morning routine and an evening routine. If you do a mask or deep exfoliation on certain days of the week, stay consistent about it.
- Water: I know you probably hear that water will solve all of life’s problems, but it will! At least when it comes to your face. Drink at least 8 glasses a day… stick with 10 around that time of the month (or when you’re breaking out). It will flush you of all those toxins and keep your skin glowing.
- Remove your makeup: Take off your makeup every. single. day. If you come in after a few too many glasses of wine and washing your face just isnt on the agenda that night, at least use makeup wipes to remove the makeup. It takes about 30-seconds and will at least prevent your pores from clogging up. Take my word on it.
My skincare routine:
This is my personal skincare routine, meaning that it works for my skin. These are just my recommendations, I am by no means a doctor, so consult with your dermatologist if you aren’t sure what works for you!
First, I use Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost Hydrating Cleansing Gel for removing my makeup in the shower. This is a great basic face wash; it is oil free and won’t clog your pores.
I also like ExfoliKate Cleanser by Kate Sommerville as my “everyday” cleanser. I found this face wash at Nordstrom; but they also sell it online at Kate Sommerville’s website and at Sephora. There is also an EradiKate Acne Cleanser for those with a bit more acne. I recently started using the cleanser and love it. Its a great everyday exfoliator for those with somewhat flakey skin, like me.
I also use dr. brandt PoreDermabrasion twice a week. I use this cleanser in place of my everyday face wash and it gives my face a deeper exfoliation. I actually got a bottle of this in my FabFitFun box back in August, so I will be purchasing some more of this when I run out.
After washing my face, I use Fiancea for my acne scars. This is a product that requires a prescription to get, but it works by cutting off the red blood vessels to your skin that cause acne scars. I have used it for years and it is awesome!
For my moisturizer, I use Dior “DiorSnow” moisturizer on days when I know its going to be cooler; I use an older version of this heavy moisturizer, so I linked a newer version for you. On warmer days, I use a lighter Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizer. Both moisturizers are great; and its always good to keep two on hand for days when the weather changes.
